Soma is a neurotechnology company building the world’s first software brain computer interface. Our cognitive fitness platform (think Strava for the brain) surfaces trends and insights on mental clarity, cognitive load, stress, and more. Our mission is simple & ambitious: to make brain health accessible, measurable, and actionable.

We’re a small but world-class team backed by investors in Oura, Canva, Coinbase, SpaceX and others when they were our size and stage. We're looking for a Head of Engineering to help drive technical roadmap and scale the team that will enable a new frontier for health and performance.

About the role

This is a founding leadership role. We’re looking for someone who can zoom out to set architecture and roadmap direction, and zoom in to ship code alongside the team. You'll work closely with our Founder to drive product direction and iteration, and own everything from infrastructure and reliability to engineering culture and hiring.

We want someone who is deeply hands-on, who has lived in the trenches of 0→1 product development, and who knows when to build for scale and when to move fast and clean it up later.

Ideal qualifications

• 2+ years of experience building product at an early stage start up
• You've shipped product people genuinely love, from 0→1
• You’ve driven engineering efforts in scrappy, fast paced environments and have strong instincts about what matters and what doesn't at this stage
• You're a product engineer at heart: comfortable with ambiguity, willing to get into user research and data, and able to translate fuzzy product goals into clean technical decisions
• You are comfortable navigating ambiguity, designing and testing user-facing interventions, and doing product work (user interviews, experiment design, metric analysis)
• You have experience with cloud-based product architecture at scale
